Going to the cinema more cheaply
Many cinema’s offer cheaper seats on certain days or at certain times of the day because these are their quiet times. They do this to encourage people to go at these times as it costs them just as much to run a cinema screen for 1 person watching as it does for 100 people watching. What this means for you is that it’s worth asking them if they have any reduced prices during the week. You will often find that these reduced prices are mid week, and early in the day, with the more expensive times to go being weekends and evenings when more people are looking for cinema entertainment.
Some cinemas such as Cineworld run schemes where you can purchase a yearly pass. The Cineworld scheme costs £162 for access to all cinemas except their London West end ones, or £198 if you want those to be included as well. For this, you get unlimited access to the cinemas every day of the week that the cinema is open, and for all films that are open to the general public except premium screenings such as deluxe and 3-D screenings, as long as there is a seat available. For 3-D screenings you still get to use your card to get access, but you do have to pay an extra £1.50 to see the film.
Many smaller cinemas will also run their own schemes and clubs as well. Some of these work in a similar way to the Cineworld one, and others give you discounts to certain screenings during the week, or offer people the chance to see older films cheaply, or for kids to belong to a club and see films regularly with an adult accompanying them for free.
If you’re a cinema fan it’s always worth asking your local cinema about any of these different sorts of schemes they might run to find out if any of them might benefit you and save you money.
